THE Ensuite Renovation | Part 4 | Timber Tiles

When we started looking at tile options we hunted online and in store to find something a smidgen different and something that wouldn’t overpower our tiny 2mtr by 1.7mtr ensuite.

The Painter and I both love encaustic floor tiles but felt they wouldn’t be used to the best of their gorgeous ability in a small room (stay tuned for the second bathroom renovation where we will definitely be using them!). We ummed and ahhed over many options, so many choices – but none with the different factor we were after.

This was until we stumbled across timber look floor tiles. We both loved them online but would they pass the real life test? Would they look cheap and nasty or glamorous and elegant? Hopefully, seeing as we choose them we are going for the latter.

They have been used internationally and in east Australia for quite a few years now but appear to be relatively new here in Perth and there is fast becoming a large range to choose from.

We choose Timber Look Nero from Ross’s Discount Home Store. The Nero is a rich chocolate brown with traces of an almost black grain, a perfect compliment to the black tapware and our custom Marri bench top, shelf and mirror.

The tiles look and feel like raw timber, with the wood grain inkjet printed in high resolution to give a realistic textured finish. They vary in tone and design so to further mimic real timber. At $55 per sqm they were also affordable – winning. Here is our tiler attempting to escape an action photo… alas there was nowhere to run. Our tiler is Marko from ProMark Tiling, we highly recommend him and can pass on his details if you contact us.

We will save the grand reveal of our tiling soon when our ensuite is complete, to tie you over here is an example of beautiful timber look floor tiles by Beaumont Tiles. These are Astilla Oak – swoon.

We are so very close to the finish line, around 19 weeks in from the first demolition hammer. We have literally saved half the cost by renovating ourselves and will be looking at around $8 to $8.5k by completion. This is exceptionally cheap considering we completely rebuilt the room and will be using custom, quality finishes.

Happy Easter to all, I’m going to get The Painter the architrave the new ensuite door – Happy Easter to him!
